The City of Cherokee is accepting applications for a full-time Wastewater Treatment Utility Servicer in the Wastewater Department in Public Works.

A Wastewater Treatment Utility Servicer must have knowledge in the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment in the Wastewater plant and lift stations.  A Wastewater Treatment Utility Servicer must have the ability to make operational repairs and adjustments; have command of verbal, written and/or basic computer skills; have knowledge of the processes involved in water operations; have the ability to read and interpret diagrams, gauges and meters used in plant operations and as otherwise necessary in performing required duties; establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public.  A Wastewater Treatment Utility Servicer is required to perform heavy physical labor. 

Desired Qualifications:

A Wastewater Treatment Utility Servicer must have a high school diploma or have a GED equivalent; a valid State drivers license; a Class B CDL or the ability to obtain; and the ability to obtain a State of Iowa Grade I Wastewater Treatment Operator’s license.

A Wastewater Treatment Utility Servicer performs daily and weekend operations of the plant equipment.  A Wastewater Treatment Utility Servicer is responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:


  1. Preventative maintenance regarding all equipment
  2. Wastewater laboratory analysis.
  3. Recordkeeping.
  4. Maintaining written and/or computer records and reports.
  5. Snow removal working odd hours
  6. Heavy lifting
  7. Running skid loader backhoes and other equipment
  8. Welling to help in other departments as needed
  9. Mowing, and weed eating
  10. Other City work as may be assigned.
  11. Serving on various employee or other committees, as assigned.
