Northwest AEA is looking for a Substitute Juvenile Home Teacher Assistant. You would serve as a teacher assistant for a juvenile home education program at either a detention center or shelter care facility.

Physical demands:

Walking and maneuvering in tight spaces (i.e. between classroom desks)

Desired Qualifications:

Associate arts degree and/or a minimum of educational program experience and Iowa paraeducator certification.

Duties:

Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/Tasks

  • Implement programs and procedures as directed by the teacher
  • Guide and/or provide instruction for independent study, enrichment and remedial work with students as needed
  • Monitor and assist with the maintenance of a positive learning environment
  • Administer, score and record student work progress as directed by the teacher.
  • Develop and maintain excellent relationships with facility staff, schools and agencies.
  • Assist in program planning.
  • Assist the teacher with compiling of program data.
  • Provide the teacher with anecdotal information about student progress.
  • Participate in ongoing program review.
  • Communicate information with facility staff in a timely manner.
  • Perform duties as assigned by the teaher and/or program coordinator.
  • Actively participate in staff development
  • Other duties as assigned.

Location: Cherokee

Education: Associate arts degree and/or a minimum of educational program experience and Iowa paraeducator certification.
