The Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking a Psychologist 3 to join the team at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI). CHMI provides active inpatient treatment to adults, adolescence and children who are in need of acute psychiatric services.

Starting pay is $63,481.60 - $98,196.80 Annually. We also offer a strong opportunity for advancement, growth, and development.

Desired Qualifications:

Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:

  1. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a doctorate degree in psychology, behavior analysis, or counseling, and experience equal to two years of full-time clinical work in the provision of counseling and therapy in an institutional or community mental health, intellectual disability, long-term care, or correctional program.
  2. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a master's degree in psychology, behavior analysis, or counseling, and experience equal to four years of full-time clinical work in the provision of counseling and therapy in an institutional or community mental health, intellectual disability, long-term care, or correctional program.
  3. Possession of a license to practice psychology from the Iowa Board of Psychology.
  4. Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Psychologist 2.

Duties:

Psychologist 3 will coordinate and provide professional and psychological services for children, adolescents, and adults in an acute psychiatric hospital. Psychological services primarily include psychological testing and evaluation, psychotherapy, behavior management, and crisis intervention for acute psychiatric patients. Psychological services shall be evidence-based, individualized/person-centered, trauma-informed, and recovery oriented. Delivery and priority of services are determined by the treatment team and/or medical director and may be directed by medical orders.
