Every day you’ll ensure our roads are safer through sampling, testing, and inspecting construction projects year-round in all types of weather conditions.
Shift: 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, hours may vary and subject to call 24 hours a day during emergency and/or weather conditions; occasional overnight travel
Pay Range: $21.94 to $32.26 an hour

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
1) Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalency, and experience equal to four years of fulltime work in highway maintenance, equipment operation, construction inspection, field work in engineering survey, or materials inspection and testing.
2) A total of four years of education and/or full-time experience (as described in number one), where thirty semester hours of post-high-school education in highway maintenance, equipment operation, construction inspection, field work in engineering survey, or materials inspection and testing equals one year of full-time experience.
3) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes eighteen months of full-time work as a Highway Technician or Construction Technician.
4) Current, continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes twenty-four months of full-time work as a Highway Technician Associate.

Rain or shine, you’ll keep the roads safe by:
Supporting IDOT in day-to-day activities including, but not limited to:
- maintaining detailed records of all project activities such as vouchers, as-builts, and progress reports
- acting as the liaison with Iowa DOT staff, government officials, contractors, and the public
- performing mathematical calculations to ensure compliance with project plans, percent complete, quantity used, and areas measured
- ensuring that work is completed according to the plans, specifications, and contract documents
- utilizing computers and applies related software applications
- completing routine maintenance and service of DOT equipment and vehicles
- operating snow and ice removal equipment
May be required to obtain testing material certification, specialized equipment training, or other certifications as needed for construction inspection
