Kents named Aurelia 'Citizens of the Year'

March 26, 2014

Duane and Lucille Kent have been selected as Aurelia's Citizens of the Year through voting conducted by the Aurelia Commercial Club. The honored couple have lived in the Aurelia area for close to 50 years. Both are former teachers in the Aurelia School District, and Duane also served for a time as the Aurelia High School Principal. Duane is also very interested in land conservation issues, and is especially knowledgeable about the proper care and nurturing of trees. In 2011, the Kents received the Field Shelterbelt Award from the Izaak Walton League's Windbreak Awards program. Duane and Lucille have two grown children, both of whom graduated from Aurelia High School. Greg is retired from the Air Force, and he and his family live in Edmond, Oklahoma, and Heather (Cole) and her family live in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Duane and Lucille are the very proud grandparents of eight, and they love visiting the grandkids. The Kents are active members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Aurelia, and both Duane and Lucille have held various leadership roles in the congregation over the years. Previous Aurelia Citizen of the Year Award winners include Cindy Krause, the Wharton Family, Dennis and Pam Allen, Don and Betty Wieland, Imagene Galvin, Wayne Gaston, Roger Redig, Jeff Bowen, Bill Smith, Randy Nicodemus, Albert Kreutz, Carla and Bruce Peterson, and Deloy Bruce. The Kents will be honored Saturday evening at the annual CAEDC Recognition Banquet at the Western Iowa Tech Community College Conference Center in Cherokee.
