Aurelia
"Working Together for a Better Tomorrow"
Situated on the western perimeter of the largest
wind power farm in the world, and intersected by
one of the major grain transportation rail lines
in the Midwest, Aurelia is the proud home of over
1,000 hard-working residents. Aurelia (located on
Highway 7, in northwest Iowa) lies in the heart
of one of the greatest food producing areas on Earth,
and from that geographic strength it has built a
firm agricultural foundation. The diverse members
of this community always find time for their families,
outdoor activities (including golf on the local
course) and improving and maintaining a clean environment
in which to live.

History
Aurelia is named after the daughter of John Insley
Blair, the man who was responsible for setting up
towns along the local railroad for his firm, Blair's
Townsite Company. The settlement benefited early
on from its middle location in the stretch of distance
between Sioux City and Fort Dodge, as a centralized
access point for both agrarian and commercial businesses.
The area gave a great deal of support to grain,
hog and cattle industries as well as providing a
helping hand to the many farmers living close by.
The
township initially began to blossom in 1872, when
the first school was built to offer educational
opportunities for Aurelian residents. In 1878, growth
demanded that a new site be constructed to accommodate
the population. The two-story structure lasted 45
years until 1923 when the current school was erected.
Churches were added periodically in 1881, 1883 and
1925. A library was built in 1917, and the post
office has stood inside the town since 1875.

Education
The Aurelia Community School System is fiercely
supported by all residents, especially when it comes
to academic or sporting events. The Aurelia Bulldogs
are the athletic pride of the town and are boosted
by Aurelians at both home and away games. The educational
focus the school takes is one of the top priorities
for the parents and students alike, with both striving
for excellence in learning. For more information

Wind
Power
Simply
stated, wind power is a form of solar energy. About
2% of the sun's radiation that falls on the earth
is converted to wind energy through the heating and
cooling of the earth's surface. When areas of the
earth heat up, the hot air rises and cooler air rushes
in - creating wind. The Buena Vista and Cherokee counties
feature the world's largest "wind farm." The 193 megawatt
Storm Lake Wind Power Generation Facility, constructed
on Buffalo Ridge, comprises 257 Zond Z-750 kW wind
turbines - the largest wind turbines manufactured
in the United States. Aurelia is proud to be associated
with a renewable natural resource that makes for a
cleaner environment and a better place to grow. |
